  • Association for Iowa's Children - The Association for Iowa’s Children was formed to assist in developing a one voice message for Iowa’s Children. The Association was formed through the cooperation of Empowerment Areas across the state of Iowa. The vision of this association is to work for the health, education and safety of all Iowa children by providing a united front to address the issues of these children.

  • Blank Children's Hospital/Child Passenger Safety - Visit this site for information about choosing the right car seat for your child, the "best practice" guidelines in using your car seat appropriately, and for the locations of car seat safety check-ups locally and throughout the state. 

  • Central Place Family Resource Center - Central Place is a school-based family resource center serving any resident (regardless of age) of the Southeast Polk Community School District.  A link to Central Place programs is located on the lower left side of Southeast Polk home page.

  • Child Care Resource & Referral of Central Iowa - Central Iowa parents can conduct their own on-line search for child care on this website as well as access information on how to choose quality child care and other useful parenting resources. The website also includes resources and professional development opportunities for child care providers.

  • Children & Families of Iowa-Family Child Care Home Program - Agency overview and links to additional services and programs.

  • Connect For Kids - Connect For Kids offers you practical ways to build communities for kids and families.  Whether it is throughout the nation or in your own state, you can access up-to-date information to help you make a difference.

  • Dads and Daughters - This web site will offer ideas on how to strengthen a father's relationship with his daughter. 

  • Des Moines Public Schools Community Education - This website list Des Moines Public Schools Community Education classes available ecery fall, winter, spring and summer sessions.  You will find registration and contact information on this site as well.

  • Des Moines Public Schools SUCCESS Program - School district information-Including information about the School Board, the District as a whole, individual schools and programs.

    SUCCESS is listed under the Programs Header, select Dropout Prevention.

  • Des Moines Schools Department of Community and Adult Education - For a complete listing of classes and educational opportunities offered through Des Moines Adult and Community Ed, visit this site.

  • Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) - Our Nutrition program is a free program geared towards low resource families with children 10 years or younger, or for women who are pregnant. 
    To graduate from the program, participants must have 8 lessons from one of the Program Assistants who can meet people wherever it's most convenient for them.  We mostly we come to participants homes to teach them and help them out in any way.

  • Heartland Area Education Agency/Parent-Educator Connection - This site will give parents and educators the assistance they need as they work together to improve communication between home and school for children and young adults with special needs.  You will also find valuable links to information on specific disabilities and/or disability awareness.

  • Innovative Learning Professionals, P.C. - The I LEARN center at Innovative Learning Professionals, LC, has programs for preschool and school aged children designed to assist providers and parents with therapies that address learning disabilities.

  • Iowa Family Resource Network - Parents and professionals working together to prevent child abuse.  Website contains news and events around the state as well as resources and job listings.

  • Iowa Fatherhood - This site was created to give the parents of Iowa easy access to information that will help them be actively and positively involved with their children. It contains links to a variety of other sites that most directly support the role of Iowa's parents with their children.

  • Iowa State University Extension - Iowa State University Extension provides education regarding nutrition, family life, resource management and youth programs.  Visit this site to find out what's available in your local community.

  • IPTV Kids - This site is designed especially for kids and is a companion to all the things they love about their favorite characters.

  • IPTV Ready to Learn - Iowa Public Television's (IPTV) Ready To Learn service helps families, educators, and child care providers prepare Iowa's children, ages birth to eight years, for educational success through effective and appropriate use of public television resources.

  • Me & My Dad - It's the quality of time you spend with your child that matters most, not the quantity. 

    Kids benefit when Dads are actively involved in their life.  You don't have to live in the same household to have a quality relationship with your child.  For ways to stay connected when you are physically apart check out this website!

  • Mid-Iowa Family Therapy Clinic, Inc. - This website includes information on children's mental health needs from state and national resources.

  • National Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies - A non-profit organization making child care work for families and communities.

  • National Center for Fathering - The National Center for Fathering was founded in 1990 by Dr. Ken Canfield to conduct research on fathering and develops practical resources for dads in nearly every fathering situation. Our goal is to help men be better fathers, and to offer resources to help with family issues that affect kids like divorce, being a step-parent, and raising teens.

  • Parents Anonymous of Iowa, Inc - Overview of agency, description of weekly support groups and parenting classes, parenting tips and updated events. 

    Parents Anonymous offers free weekly programs for parents and their children.  The parent programs are led by parents, for the parents.  The goal of the group is to strengthen parenting skills, promote positive relationships in the family and gain support from other parents in the process.  Parents Anonymous groups are located across America and the Iowa office is located in Des Moines.

    Call 255-9490 if you would like to attend a weekly group, sign up for parenting classes, or would like to be a volunteer in our many programs.

  • Parents as Teachers - A program offering free parent education to families, includes many program which serves your area.

  • Parents' Action for Children - Formerly Rob Reiner's I Am Your Child Foundation, Parent's Action for Children is building a constituency of parents to change national policies for children and policies. This website links parents together to share their stories and also provides the best available information on issues families care about.

  • Prevent Child Abuse Iowa - Prevent Child Abuse Iowa

    Prevent Child Abuse Iowa organizes and directs two statewide child abuse prevention programs that provide families with social support, respite child care, and education: the Iowa Child Abuse Prevention Program (ICAPP) and the Young Families Initiative.  These programs exist in over 60 Iowa counties and provide instruction and support to 9,000 families and 30,000 children each year.  Prevent Child Abuse Iowa is the leading statewide voice advocating for public policies and programs that prevent child abuse.

  • Stork's Nest - Visiting Nurse Services offers parenting and prenatal classes, adult and senior health services, community health screenings, healthy start and empowerment programs for infants and children, and community collaborations.

  • The Daily Parent - The Daily Parent newsletter offers the latest information on child development issues, tips for finding quality child care, and numerous resources for busy parents, as well as child care professionals.

  • Visiting Nurse Services - Visiting Nurse Services offers parenting and prenatal classes, adult and senior health services, community health screenings, healthy start and empowerment programs for infants and children, and community collaborations.

  • YMCA of Greater Des Moines - We build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities

  • Young Women's Resource Center - The Young Women's Resource Center offers many services that are free, confidential, and voluntary to young women, ages 13 to 21.  Visit this site to find out more about the services provided.

    The YWRC can also provide car seats and booster seats with training.  Contact the center to register for a training session.  Emergency diapers and formula are available on a once a month basis.  Availability is  contingent upon supplies.  All YWRC services are free, voluntary and confidential.
