Chris Frantsvog- Polk County DPH-Lead Poisoning Chris Frantsvog with Polk County Department of Public Health came and spoke about projects and things going on with Polk County and lead in homes. This year every child will have to have at least one lead test done before entering school. There is funding available for families that qualify to have lead testing done on the children and to have the hazards taken away in their home. It is estimated that 64,000 homes in Polk County have a significant amount of lead hazards. In 2007, 294 children had a lead test of a level 10. As of mid-March this year, 9,027 children have been tested with 15,000 children under the age of 6yrs left to test. If anybody would like to become involved and become a member of the lead coalition or to have your agency contribute you can contact Chris Frantsvog at 286-3430 or cfrants@co.polk.ia.us.
